Historians of the Enlightenment
|
Medieval Historians Medieval historians continued in the traditions of the early Greek historians, blending fact and fiction for aesthetic or didactic purposes. Audiences of the time understood this style of story and history telling, unlike modern audiences, which must frequently discern for themselves whether a particular presentation of history sticks to the facts or is only inspired by them. The integrity of the facts first came into question during the Enlightenment, when historians determined that a more scientific approach was needed. In our own society where historical television programming and films reach a broad audience, it has become increasingly important for presenters to clarify how the facts are used.
