Heroditus A Greek historian, Heroditus is referred to as the Father of History for his nine-volume work. It is the first comprehensive attempt at secular narrative history and considered the starting point of Western historical writing. Heroditus traveled in Asia Minor, Babylon, and Egypt before settling in Athens, and then finally in S. Italy. He was politically involved throughout his life, and was even thought of as a revolutionary. His work chronicled the Persian Wars and also the many cultures of his time and earlier. The nine volumes include many stories myths that add to the work's texture and style, if not its accuracy.
